Hi, Im Rob, a Family man and now Armchair Raver from Stoke On Trent, Staffordshire. I got into Dance music in 1991 / 92 after hearing 'Rave' and Piano House tracks that broke into the charts like SL2's Djs Take Control, K-Klass' Rhythm Is A Mystery and Moby's Go.There were also various mixtapes from clubnights and events doing the rounds and it wasnt long before I got into copying and trading them..
I loved the concept of the 'Warehouse Rave' and pirate radio and it was then that I decided that I fancied a go at Djing myself. I started to collect vinyl and managed to get to play at a few parties and at the local youth club. It wasnt untill 1994 though that I got to get my own pair of decks and as Id already learnt myself to mix, I started to record my own demo mixtapes and circulate them between friends and beyond. This led me to get to play at more parties and events and I also started to put on my own small events with a friend after forming the Bombsite Promotions Organisation..
This carried on for the next 4 years and then by chance in 1998, I caught Dave Pearce's Dance Anthems show on Radio 1. He was playing classic tracks from Altern 8, Congress & The Prodigy which brought back some great memories for me. I then became a regular listener to the show and heard current tracks like Paul Van Dyks For An Angel, Nalin & Kane's Beachball, Agnelli & Nelsons El Nino. This led me to start listening to Pete Tong and Judges Jules' shows on Radio 1 and to start buying and playing House & Trance music..
With the House and Trance music clubbing scene fastly becoming a huge trend and at that time the internet also taking off, it became easy to arrange gigs and bookings online through forums as every man and his dog seemed to want to try their hand at promoting. For the next 6 years I was regularly playing out at House, Trance and Retro nights across the country and I got back into the Hardcore scene in 2004 after it had abit of a revival..
In 2008, after many enjoyable road trips and nights out, I decided to call it a day on playing out regularly and putting on events for various reasons, one being the fact Id started a family..
Over the years, Ive enjoyed playing out and about in the scene, and enjoyed putting on my own events. Ive been lucky enough in getting booked to play alongside some legendary Dj's and acts too including Dave Pearce, Ultrabeat, AJ Gibson, Slipmatt, John Askew, Seduction, Al Storm, Rat Pack, Tyler Leigh, Cally & Juice, Stu Allan, Paul Kershaw, Dj Unknown, Breeze, Daz Willott, Ellis Dee, Dougal, Nick Rafferty, Fracus, JP & Juksey, Brisk, Darwin, JFK, Vibes, Jay Prescott, Devastate, Cally Gage, Fergus, Cruze, and Jamie Ritmen to name drop a few..
The Rave and Dance music scene has changed alot since its start in 1988, the type of events, the music, the people attending the events and the medium on which the music is played has been through big changes. I personnaly prefer the early years of the Rave and Dance music scene and the music I collect and play nowadays shows that. Strictly on Vinyl, I now just play retrospective sets. Hardcore / Old Skool wise, I like to play full on 'Old Skool' sets, anywhere from 1991 - 1998 or what I like to call a Nu Skool Vs Old Skool set of recent remixes of Old Skool tracks & Classic Hardcore. On the House & Trance tip, I like to play either a Dance Anthems set ranging from House through Classic Dance to Trance Anthems anywhere from 1991 to the present day or a set from a particular year..
